The grounds are beautiful, the staff are all so lovely and helpful, and the location is perfect to get the Lake Cruise over the road to Ambleside, Bowness etc. Zip World just over the road if that is your thing. We ate in The Grill Restaurant during our stay - the food was perfect. Saw a deer in the woods around the hotel and also loved visiting the Highland Cows on the driveway in too.

My wife and I eloped to Merewood Country House Hotel with our two small dogs and fell in love with the place! The stunning views were clear to see, the extra special touches were unexpected but amazing. Every interaction with staff members was profound and sincere from the wedding co-ordinator Tegan and Adam on the reception desk who were so friendly and all the wonderful attentive & restaurant staff.

We had originally booked a double bed, but they were out of stock, so they changed us to two rooms free of charge. Very kind of them. And the hotel has a very retro décor and a great atmosphere. You can play chess with friends by the warm fireplace while enjoying a beer. It's very pleasant.

Back from our 'Just Us' wedding at Merewood, it was all we wanted and more. We were made to feel welcome, comfortable and special from the off! All staff were amazing, special thanks to Rhiannon from the wedding team, who even took some photos for us! And to Steve, behind the bar and served dinner, cheers! The day itself was perfect, no stress and very intimate. Our room was wonderful and looked out over Lake Windermere, there were lovely gifts left us with a cooled bottle of prosecco! The food was amazing, the afternoon tea was fab and the tasting menu on the evening of our wedding was outstanding. We cannot recommend Merewood enough and we will certainly be back to celebrate an anniversary! Massive thanks to all staff, you are a great team!

We had our small, intimate wedding at The Merewood on the 6th of November, and it was truly the most wonderful experience. The venue is absolutely stunning, and the staff were amazing from start to finish. On arrival, we were greeted by Andy on reception — such a friendly, smiley chap who instantly made us feel welcome. Our wedding coordinator Rhiannon was prompt and professional, meeting us as soon as we arrived and sitting down with us while we enjoyed some afternoon tea. Nicola, the manager, was just as warm and helpful as when I first met her during the venue tour. The waiting staff were fantastic — I didn’t catch everyone’s names, but if you were in that room with Jess and Atim, you were wonderful! You set up our table beautifully and made sure we were looked after all day. The food for the afternoon tea was lovely, sooo much of it and variety! The evening meal (we ate from the grill menu) was again really nice! The cleaners were cheerful and kind — and they made a real fuss of my dog, which is always a win in my book! Our room (room 5) was spotless, with the most breathtaking view. Although the team must host several weddings every week, I genuinely felt like ours was their first — everyone was so enthusiastic and attentive. I can’t thank you all enough for making our day so perfect. I 100% picked the right venue, and all my guests were blown away with how gorgeous the house/grounds were. The only very small negative was that the smoke detector in our room started flashing a bright white light during the night (from around 2 a.m.), although it was back to green or red during the day. (some other guests also said the same thing) Other than that tiny issue, everything was flawless. The perfect venue, with the perfect people. Thank you, thank you, thank you, I wish we could do it all again and I 100% recommend this hotel.

Stayed at the 3 hotels within the chain, all a stones throw from each other. This potentially being my favorite. The building is an old country house with with alot of the original features. With open fires throughout and views of the lake, it really does give a great sense of place and being hidden away from the real world for 24hrs. Very nice rooms too, which are spottlessly clean. We paid £269 total for an overnight stay with breakfast, along with tasting menu for two + cream tea and a bottle on ice on arrival. Very very good value. The tasting menu isn't 3 star Michelin, but for the price it's a very high standard, with chefs clearly taking great care in what they're doing. Excellent cooking and playing with unexpected flavors. Nothing extreme, just to the point each course felt memorable and new. No real negatives, the tasting menu arriving a little quicker would be great. For the price it wasn't a major issue. Staff maybe on the young and inexperienced side, but still perfectly friendly and going out of their way to help. I get the impression the hotel runs a tight ship in order to see for a fair price, but I'd love to see the what the kitchen could do if given free reign, could be something very special - while even now easily being one of the most memorable meals I've had. Would happily recommend and will stay here myself as a first choice next time I'm in the area.

Visited 30/11/2025 on Sunday night deal on own website, from being supported through booking with Nicola and then Adam, the pre arrival booking was a smooth experience, including support for dietary needs and request for birthday message (lovely touch with the card with the venue at front and lovely message inside). On arrival the signs take you to the upper car park, however if you have any accessibility needs, then instead of going right and up, turn into the left area near reception and park if there is a space there. Upon entering there was a small wait whilst others were being seen to, then greeted warmly. Given room slip with code for front if go out and come back and door is locked, also advise of free guest WiFi, however found out after it doesn’t work well to register if you use an Apple iOS device, however I was then provided access to a different WiFi and all was well (thank you to the lady who looked after us when having the scones and tea). The lake view room we had is also a bridal suite and very spacious, a lovely touch to have non alcoholic drinks and birthday message card in room on arrival. Once settled into the room we came down and sat for scones and tea/coffee, this was in the room adjacent to the bar and was a very comfortable setting, enjoyed although I’d say the scones did break apart a bit too quickly but still were very tasty. Then for evening dinner, we came down and were seated in the dining room, again from start to finish looked after very well including around dietary needs. Back to the room and a request for iron was waiting upon return, there was a kettle with tea/hot chocolate and nespresso pod machine, and hotels own filtered water in a bottle with some sweets in a mini milk bottle, again lovely touches. The bed itself is very comfortable and have a great nights sleep. In the morning back to the dining room for breakfast and cold options and hot options, again looked after by lovely lady and met Nicola who was supporting. A running factor through the visit was how genuinely friendly and welcoming the team made us feel, you can usually tell if out in but this was first class service all the way through. Then checking out was a smooth process and asked if stay went well, we left intending that we will visit again in the future! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
